Hygienic Meditations

Hygienic Meditations is a photographic exploration of an everyday ritual that suddenly gained new significance during the COVID-19 pandemic: handwashing. Using a macro underwater camera, I documented the process from an unusually intimate perspective, shifting attention from hygiene itself to the visual and tactile qualities of the act. Water flows across skin, soap transforms into foam, and familiar textures become abstract landscapes. By placing the camera directly within the action, the images immerse viewers in a routine that is usually performed automatically and rarely observed closely. Rather than creating an instructional or documentary series, I approached the subject as a meditative study of perception. The photographs reveal details that often go unnoticed and invite a renewed appreciation of ordinary gestures. Accompanied by a fluid editorial layout, the project turns a habitual act into a sensory and aesthetic experience.
