Baxter Font Family

The project received a Bronze Nail in the ADC Talent Award category at the Art Directors Club Germany (ADC) Awards in Hamburg in 2021.

In 2026, the typeface received an Award of Excellence from Communication Arts, California, and was featured in Typography Annual 16, showcasing outstanding work in contemporary type design.

Baxter is a display typeface inspired by the fictional character Bella Baxter from the film Poor Things. Created as part of a project exploring character-driven type design, the challenge was to translate a personality into a visual language. What fascinated me about Bella was her contradictory nature: she combines the curiosity and spontaneity of a child with the appearance and independence of an adult. This tension became the foundation of the typeface. Geometric structures reference the character's outward composure, while rounded forms, playful proportions, and a vibrant color system reflect her childlike energy and sense of discovery. Designed as a modular system, Baxter can be layered, nested, deconstructed into graphic elements, or used in different stylistic variations. The result is a flexible display typeface that balances structure and playfulness, capturing the charm of a character defined by contrasts.
